How to Make an Educational Web Video For Business

WEEKLY MARKETING TRAINING REPLAY: In this week's training we covered how to record an educational web video for business. Below is the checklist we reference for each Vyral Marketing client video to make sure you look and present yourself well on video.

Ideal Videography (10 points)

  1. _____ Is the audio clear and strong?
  2. _____ Did you record 16:9 widescreen at least 720p?
  3. _____ Does the video and the audio sync (lips match voice)?
  4. _____ Are you off-center in the frame for graphics (rule of thirds)?
  5. _____ Are you zoomed in to fill 1/3 of the frame?
  6. _____ Are you looking slightly up or directly at the camera?
  7. _____ Did you remove all background noise?
  8. _____ Did you remove all background light (i.e. close the window)?
  9. _____ Do you have a light source shining on you (ideally outdoor light)?
  10. _____ Is the background simple as not to distract from the message?

Ideal Presentation (8 points)

  1. _____ Is your video under 3 minutes in length?
  2. _____ Did you introduce yourself and what you do first?
  3. _____ Did you state the point of the video second (and the benefit)?
  4. _____ Did you give a quick call to action third?
  5. _____ Are you enthusiastic in your presentation (show emotion/smiling)?
  6. _____ Are you conversational and not obviously reading a script?
  7. _____ Do you look at the camera the entire time?
  8. _____ Did you share 1 specific, clear idea (ideally Q&A)?

Ideal Editing (5 points)

  1. _____ Are the video transitions smooth?
  2. _____ Did we include a brief animation logo introduction?
  3. _____ Did we include graphical text on key points? (and spell checked)
    1. _____ Did we add a sound effect / motion when displaying graphical text? (bonus)
  4. _____ Did we include your contact information on a lower third?
  5. _____ Did we use jump cuts to keep the video moving and tight? (bonus)
  6. _____ Did we zoom in for a close up portrait to emphasis important points? (bonus)
  7. _____ Did we include client approved background music from YouTube library? (bonus)
  8. _____ Did we include client provided B-roll of pictures or slides? (bonus point)
