How To Shoot A Web Video To Get More Business

Most people decide if they are going to watch a video in the first four seconds. You have to stand out in order to get noticed. Today we answer the question: How do I make a web video that looks good and makes me look like a professional?

By following these tips, you will be able to shoot high quality videos that will be both appealing and intriguing to your audience. Let's get started.

Tip #1: Start Recording Your Videos at Your Desk with a Webcam

For a modest fee of $100, you can get a gorgeous high resolution webcam that shoots in 1080p.

Most people can be intimidated by standing in front of a camera crew. If you take the webcam and set it down right on top of your monitor, it's like having a video chat with someone and makes it a lot easier for you to record your videos.

Tip #2: Eliminate Background Light

If you have natural light coming in over your shoulder, maybe through a window, you're going to be entirely dark. All you have to do is make sure to close those windows behind you. With less light coming over your shoulder, you will be much more illuminated and visually appealing to your audience.

Tip #3: Follow the Rule of Thirds

In your video, place yourself either to the left or right of the center. This is a photography concept called "The Rule of Thirds" and it creates more energy and interest in the video than simply centering yourself would. This also allows you to steer clear of a giant play button on your face and leaves you room for text or graphics to appear alongside you in your video.

Tip #4: Don't Create Your Own Topics

Always use Q and A to come up with your topics. You may think you know what your audience wants to hear, but in reality you're just guessing. By reaching out to your customers and asking them what they want questions they'd like answered, you'll know exactly what content will appeal to the most viewers.

Tip #5: Perfect Your Intro

There are 4 questions you need to answer in your intro: Who are you? What are you going to share? Why are you going to share it? And how do I take action from this video? Your audience is subconsciously asking these questions when they click your video, so it's important to answer them right from the beginning.

Tip #6: Use Talking Points, Never a Script

This actually makes things a lot easier. Simply outline what you want to say. Get that 4 step intro in there, a few main points you want to cover, and insert a call to action somewhere in the video. This will allow you to compartmentalize in your head what you want to say for each point and allows your personality to shine through much more than reading off a script would.

Tip #7: Show Some Emotion!

This is the most exciting tip. Video enables you to communicate your passion and enthusiasm directly to your audience. It's what separates your content from "just another email." Emotion is the key to retaining an audience throughout your video and ensuring that they'll listen to what you have to say.

Remember, this is more than just getting leverage and growing your business. What this is truly about is sharing great educational content, the knowledge from your head, and being able to get it onto video to share it with the people in the world who need it.

We challenge you to get in front of that webcam, use these 7 steps, and send us over a video to our Facebook page. Our staff will give you great feedback on what you need to do to make your video look great. It all starts here with a simple webcam.
