Putting together a large, segmented database is a fantastic first step toward growing your business. What many people don't realize, however, is how important it is to communicate with that database on a regular basis. Every month your database isn't communicated with, it loses 10% of its value. If you go a year without touching parts of your database, it is essentially useless.
As you've been been building your business, it's likely you haven't stayed in touch with a large section of your contacts. After all, it's easier to focus on the low hanging fruit; staying in touch with people who are months away from needing your services can feel like a waste of time in comparison.
That is simply not true - it's never a waste of time to stay top of mind. You need to communicate regularly with everyone in your database if you want to build relationships and experience long-term growth. After all, nobody wants to lose an opportunity to gain future business and possible referrals.
So the question becomes: How can you reactivate your database if you have lost touch with many of your contacts? Reestablish your lines of communication with these 4 steps:
Step #1: Define the people you've "met" and those you "haven't met"
All contacts are not equal. Some people are much more likely to buy than others and it's your job to find them. To do this, get on Facebook and LinkedIn and look at the faces of all the people in your database. You need to figure out who you would reach out to and ask for a referral, or those that would be willing to take your phone call. You will label these people as "met" because you know them well enough to speak to in person. For every 10 contacts on your list you'll probably find one you have some kind of relationship with. Segment these people to bring them together - your mets are the contacts you want to rekindle your relationship with first!
Step #2: Send a simple reconnect message
Send an email to all the people you've met in your database. The tone should be colloquial, like from a friend who regrets not staying in touch. Your subject line should be something along the lines of: "I'm sorry I haven't stayed in touch," or "Want to catch up with an old friend?" In the email you should express that you're sorry for not staying in touch, let them know you're now making educational videos you think they will find helpful, and ask them if they would like to opt-in to receive information on a regular basis. This is a simple and noninvasive way to reconnect with contacts who will prove valuable down the road.
Step #3: Call them and ask for permission to stay in touch
We know what you're thinking - calling is a hassle and can be time-consuming. But this step is crucial in reactivating your database because a call can do what a Facebook message, an email, or even a plain letter cannot. It has immediacy, urgency, and is the ultimate way to connect with someone on a personal level. This is how you really establish a relationship and, more often than not, your contacts will appreciate the gesture.
Step #4: Include them on the Vyral Marketing Plan
Once they've opted in, you can start sending them educational videos twice a month. This will keep you in front of your database on a consistent basis and will provide opportunities for future growth. When those down-the-road buyers finally enter the market a year later, you'll be the first person they think of.
In sum, this is about more than simply growing your business. It's about getting the valuable information out of your head and delivering to an audience that needs it. Reactivating your database will not only get more potential clients thinking about you, it will enable you to build meaningful relationships with people in your area and provide genuine help to those who need it.
