EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Kourtney Brown

John: We're back with another employee spotlight. Today we are talking about Kourtney Brown, who has been with us about a year. You came in as a project manager and moved your way into a coach/client manager role. Kourtney, why did you join Vyral Marketing to begin with?

Kourtney: I thought that the ad I found on my college's website was interesting, so I applied and got an interview immediately. I loved the culture when I first walked in.

John: Describe that culture or that first impression you got.

Kourtney: In my first interview, I sat down with Dan and Allison, and it was very laid-back, very casual. It was a conversation about what I was looking to do and what the company could offer me. It felt very friendly and warm.

John: Why are you still here?

Kourtney: I love the company. I love the culture, I love everything about the company. It makes coming to work every day fun.

John: Talk about the people here. What makes them enjoyable to work with?

Kourtney: Everybody is young and professional, but it's not stuffy. We have a super casual dress code, and autonomy is valued, which is something I appreciate.

John: Where do you think your career is headed here?

Kourtney: I love my current role as a client manager. I'll continue to provide great service through that and work my way up with any available opportunity.

John: What have you learned since working at Vyral?

Kourtney: I have learned a lot of insightful marketing strategies. If I ever wanted to start my own business, I could use them. Also, a lot of things you don't learn in college, like how to speak professionally on the phone or through email.

John: Besides those kinds of things, have you had any breakthroughs in your mindset? Breakthroughs about the way the world works?

Kourtney: I have friends and family in the corporate business world, but this is a lot more casual. I think the word "stiff" is very much the opposite of what it's like to work at Vyral.

John: Is there anything we can be doing better as a company?

Kourtney: I can't think of anything right now, but there's always room for improvement. If we had a more organized training program that could see our employees through their growth.

John: That's good. That’s something we are currently working on. Do you have any specific, memorable moments from working here?

Kourtney: J.R. playing the bagpipes in the parking lot. It was very strange, and not something you see every day at work.

John: Can you think of a time that you "wowed" a client and how that made you feel?

Kourtney: Last week, I was on the phone with a client who didn't realize we have expertise in design, web design, and writing. I told her that we could work on an aspect of her listing presentation, and she was floored by it. It felt great.

John: What would you tell someone that's thinking about working here? A lot of people who are will be watching this.

Kourtney: I would say it's a wonderful experience. You'll learn a lot, and the management here is willing to teach anything and everything you want to learn.

John: Any specific qualities of someone who should not apply?

Kourtney: If you're not organized or need someone to micromanage you, this probably isn't the job for you. You've got to be able to quickly think on your feet.
