How to Start Blogging 101: Find Your Passion and Start Writing!

It's been a long and wild ride the past few months since John McMillan and I started Vyral Marketing. We launched a blog, wrote a few posts, filmed a few video endorsements, and hit the pavement here in Omaha, NE to get the word out about the benefits of social media marketing for service professionals. A special thanks to Teresa Elliott at Prudential Ambassador for being our first client!

As you may have noticed, I haven't written a fresh blog post in quite some time. Why is that? We'll, it's simple really - I'm scared. Actually, I'm quite fearful. That's right, the owner of a social media marketing company - one that is built on the importance of a personalized blogging platform - is consumed by fear when he sits down to write his very own blog. Crazy? I know.

Now don't get me wrong, I love to write - in fact, I can write a 'how-to' article or educational book about blogging, social media, or email marketing with the best of them. However, you can easily find all this information online elsewhere - you don't need my help. Plus, our clients (that's my audience) are too busy to fully take advantage of the social media blogosphere, that's why they hire us to do it for them! 

So what's the purpose of our blog? What will keep you coming back for more? What's my voice? These are all questions you must answer before you start blogging - your opinions, thoughts, and values are out there for the world to comment, criticize, and take notice. Are you willing to project your voice and be heard? Well I sure am!  

So where do you start? Where do I start?

I've decided our blog will be the place to share ideas and thoughts about social media marketing through the lens of what's important to an independent service professional. I need story! I need passion! I need entertainment! I'm dedicated to make our blog THE PLACE for our ideal client who's looking for small business marketing inspiration!

As recommended by every article I read about how to start blogging, I'm going to write what I'm passionate about. When I read an article that makes me think, when I see a video that captures the mission of Vyral Marketing (to create better relationships), or when I hear a remarkable story that makes sense for our clients, I'm going to share it here with you.

 

So here's the first video I'd like to share - it's one I found on YouTube that motivated me to start Vyral Marketing. When I was in the fitness business, we spent way too much money on radio, direct mail, billboards, and other traditional media to 'purchase' the attention of our target audience. So what's the solution? How to do you get your message out in 2009? We'll, you'll have to watch the video to find out!
