EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Reid Kilmer
John: We're back again with another employee spotlight. Today, I have Reid Kilmer, who is making the transition from Project Manager to the Marketing Team Leader/Coaching role. You've been with Vyral close to 6 months now?
Reid: Yeah, I started in December.
John: Why did you join Vyral Marketing?
Reid: I was looking for a career change. I used to be in the news business and didn't think I wanted to do that for the rest of my life. Marketing had always been in the back of my mind. I started to research you guys a little bit and liked what you were doing. I always liked helping people, being a part of something bigger than myself. I thought this was the perfect place to be.
John: Describe your first impression of Vyral.
Reid: It was very open, people were saying hi, and it was very relaxed. I came from a place where everyone was wearing suits. It was professional and uptight. When I came here, I could express my opinion about different things and talk to whoever and people were willing to talk and answer any questions, which was really cool.
John: Why are you still here?
Reid: I really like it here. I don't feel like I "have to work." I look forward to coming and walking through the door, and I think that's super important. As I'm learning more, I'm growing as a person and a marketing professional. I think evolving as a person and as an employee is super important. You guys all offer that here.
John: Let's talk about the people here. What makes the people here good to work with?
Reid: Everybody is very nice and very open. There's an atmosphere where people aren't afraid to ask for help or opinions. People are always coming up with creative ideas, and there are groups like the wealth building group who get together and talk about a book we've read and how we can use it in different parts of our life. I enjoy being around the people and being able to talk to them.
John: Where do you think you're headed with your career here at Vyral?
Reid: I just started learning all the things for the client manager role so as I'm learning those, I hope to build up and enhance the skills I'm learning, and then also learn new skills to better help clients and be able to do different things for Vyral.
John: What kind of breakthroughs in your mindset have you had since working here?
Reid: I have "a-ha" moments all the time. Just learning different little things that maybe I didn't think of or I'm thinking about in different ways. I'm a very goal-oriented person and you guys have pounded that into us here, which I enjoy.
John: What could we be doing better as a company?
Reid: The one thing would be growing into different businesses. The majority of our clients are in real estate so expanding into other businesses and showing how we can help them would be the biggest and most important thing we can do.
John: What are some of the most memorable moments you've had?
Reid: Probably the first time I walked in and everyone was very relaxed and every time I walked into a new room, people were very welcoming. The creativeness that was going in and the implementation of different ideas - I enjoy all those types of things. Being able to sit down with a group of people who want to become better, I thought that was a memorable moment.
John: Can you think of a time where you did something for a client that really "Wowed" them?
Reid: I'm not sure if I've had any of those moments yet, because I'm just getting started in this role.
John: What would you tell somebody who is thinking about working here?
Reid: I would say take the jump. Plunge into at least applying here and seeing what it's about. Don't be scared away from the pay, the ladder to success is what you make of it. If you're willing to work hard and grow as a person, that shouldn't be a problem. If you want to sit around and not do a lot, I would not advise coming here. If you want a place where you can easily communicate with people you work with, this is definitely the place for you.
John: Any personality traits of someone who should not take the plunge?
Reid: Laziness, not being proactive, and not wanting to grow. That's definitely not going to help you here, and you won't succeed.
